A Mental Perspective on the Workouts of the 2012 CrossFit Games: FRIDAY!

First of all, and most important: no matter what kind of workout, whether or not you have trained the skills, know how your body will react – and fears what your mind will tell you throughout the pain  …  All there is to do, is to keep on going, never stop, never quit – just move!

For all of the athletes competing at the Crossfit Games, this is the time where it is all about MENTAL TOUGHNESS.  Its about persistence and determination. It’s about your ability to handle pressure and unknown challenges. Your ability to maintain focus and control, and overcome fear and negative emotional states.

You are all mentally tough – and this toughness is what brought you to the Games! Remember this at all times. You have what it takes!

Commitment! You’ve have already shown the world what commitment is all about. Now it is time to be committed to an extent where quitting doesn’t exist.

Fridays workouts:  The ball Toss and Track Triplet

(Sitting in the GHD, athletes will throw as many medicine balls as far as possible. Immediately after the event, athletes will reset together for the Track Triplet Event:

3 rounds for time of:

8 Split snatch, alternating legs (115 / 75lbs)
7 Bar muscle-ups
Run 400 meters

Athletes will be ranked by time.

Time Cap: 13 minutes

For many athletes I guess the Ball Toss is a skill, of which many haven’t been training before hand. When facing something completely new on a competition day it is of huge importance to think through all of the ‘what ifs’ – what if I loose the ball? What if I can’t find a rhythm? What if I keep getting no reps? and so on..

Think all the worst case scenarios through – and make strategies for each one of them, so you know exactly what to do if it happens. When everything is thought through, you have prepared your mind for what to come. You will feel less pressure – and by that be able to perform better. No matter what happens – never stop!

A Mental Perspective on the Workouts of the 2012 CrossFit Games: FRIDAY!The same thing goes with The track Triplet, find your rhythm – think it through – what happens if you miss the bar MU – what happens if you keep getting no reps?

Always remember, one step at the time. Keep going. Focus on what to do next, not what just happened!
